Under this program, 20 million trees planted in Sri Lanka covering 100,000 acres are expected to absorb about 20,000 million tons of carbon.
It is proposed to plant trees covering all possible places such as government forests, loss-making estates, private lands, river and lake reserves, religious places, wastelands, cities etc. and take care of them until they grow to the optimum level.
We hope to maximize the contribution of civil society activists, private institutions, school children and the community in the tree plantation work carried out by us. It is also expected to make people aware of the importance of tree planting and develop an attitude among them and to create a culture related to it.
In line with this programme, Sri Lanka is expected to draw the attention of the world community towards a way of life that protects nature. Accordingly, in line with this program, attention has been paid to build 100 sustainable model villages in Sri Lanka with the support of donors.
